About HASA

What is the Huntington’s Association of South Africa (HASA)?

Huntington’s Association of South Africa (HASA), was founded and registered by Michael Howard (Director) in 2004. HASA was originally created to raise funds for Huntington’s Disease (HD) sufferers and their families by establishing and managing an information centre and funding relevant research and clinical trials towards finding a cure.

As a result of there being a huge lack of care facilities for people with HD, our vision is to raise enough funds to have a home / facility specifically for people with HD.

Our mission: Assisting families with Huntington’s Disease by providing knowledge and support through support groups, creating awareness about HD through fund-raising and providing financial assistance where possible.

Our Vision: As a result of there being a huge lack of care facilities for people with HD, our vision is to raise enough funds to have a home / facility specifically for people with HD.

The funds we have raised have been used for

  • Covering the cost of the HD predictive testing process
  • Covering the cost of carer / nurse assistance
  • Other running expenses (accountant / tax practitioner fees)
